Inside are three things
1. a map – a TREASURE MAP. Not just one treasure but many treasures. I will be rich.
2. a COUPON BOOK.
a. Food, and good food, for free. Not just McDonald’s but amazing seafood, steak, lobster, Thai, Italian, rich desserts, amazing, unbelievable meals.
b. Transportation – getting to the different points of the treasure map with whatever means. All the transport needed: jeep for the rugged, convertible to be in the open, van to tote my supplies and treasures, plane for transcontinental jumps.
3. Power Source – for the energy, safety and wisdom needed to “git ‘er done.” The power source is not a thing (battery, safety net, or manual) but a person. Someone to live the adventure with. Someone to give you company and support. The person who hands you the map is willing to go with you.
What do you do?
From observation, most people take the envelope and put it in the drawer. It is safer that way. You can take it out and show people that you have it. Some others may keep it out in the open – put the map in a frame and hang it on the wall. You can talk about the adventures that you may take and, maybe, hear about stories others have taken – in the quietness and comfort of your den.
Jesus says in Mark 12:24, “But you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God . . .”
Ouch. Those to whom he spoke these words were experts in the Bible. They knew it but they didn’t know it. They knew the words but not the author.
As I pondered the verse, these are the thoughts that came to mind – what God was speaking to me.
My I/we know the author who speaks to us through the New Testament. May we see and feel his passion, commitment, company, support, power, energy and wisdom.
My we walk with him closely so that we experience his power – in us and through us. May the people around us sense the power in us. A power similar to what you feel when you get close to electric lines. You can feel the power and hear the hum. May we be the people who take God at his word and act in faith.
